Today’s homeowners want relaxing spaces without compromising style and sophistication. 1. Colors Will Stay Neutral

<img src="painttrends2016.jpeg" alt="paint trends 2016"As we discussed last week, paint, interior colors (cabinets, etc.) will remain neutral.  Naples home owners and builders are using shades of white (tans are completely obsolete), blues, greens and greys.  Since walls remain neutral, design has taken on creative ways to keep the eye interested. Whether it’s home design or decor, textures are making a statement in a big way.  With neutral paint colors and furniture, texture is a way to quickly create an impact and create interest. Faux fur is one of the top trends and can be found in accent chairs, rugs, throws and pillows. Fun accents and textures keep your home chic and functional.

In Naples, wide plank wood flooring is still the number one choice for the new construction homes.  Coming in a variety of looks, from white washed to     it’s the lighter colors that continue to trend and create that coastal contemporary home that Naples is becoming known for.  In fact, many home owners are opting for a custom tudor finish to create a unique footprint for their home.  The tudor finish is a unique process done by hand that changes the graining of each board. As a result, the surface is that it naturally creates a denser and more resilient surface, perfect for homes with pets and high traction rooms and hallways.

5. Quartz, The New Granite

The new “it” stone, Quartz has become a popular option for counter tops.   It resembles marble but doesn’t stain. The most popular option? An engineered stone that is 93% quartz, with 7% other type of stones that allow differences in colors and patterns. Why is Quartz a superior option to granite?

1. Quartz is naturally anti-bacterial because it’s non-poress
2. Is ultra-durable & resistant to stains & damage
3. Virtually maintenance-free
4. The seams are less visible than other choices
5. It is environmentally friendly
6. Comes in a wider variety of colors than natural stone

6. Lighting

It’s an art to light the home these days.  If you stick with the neutral theme, dramatic chandeliers or pendent lights are a popular choice in the kitchen, dining room, and even laundry rooms! However, if you have a bold room choices or a colorful area with texture and patterns, you may want to opt for a more demure or subtle light fixture.  Looking to highlight artwork or that bold accent wall? Use featured light fixtures or accent lighting which will make these pop and create a conversation piece with your guests.  See how 683 Hickory uses striking chandeliers around the home to create a statement in this video.

 2. Mix It Up!

This year you will see a lot of mixing and matching throughout the home.  Long gone are the days of “matchy-matchy”, from textures, shapes and materials.

There are a lot of different ways to achieve this.  It may involve applying texture to your walls, whether that is by adding wallpaper, tile, wood or any texture that fits the space. Keep in mind that light, bright textures accent your Naples home due to our proximity to the beach.

There are lots of ways to mix it up. You might try one material on the wall and a different one on the floor. Or you might opt for a busy floor pattern and a sleek look on the backsplash. A kitchen island that’s one part granite and one part wood separates prep and dining spaces yet still looks classy.
